Mixer recommendation

Hello guys, I have OP-1, several POs, MS2000, Novation BSii, and DSN-12.

I wanna mix all the above sounds for live show & record.

But I am quite blind to Mixers.

Any recommendations?

I use a Mackie Mix12 fx. Cheap, small but sounds good with enough channels. No faders though :frowning:

Thanks mate, 12 channel looks too much for me~

Something with multi faders & effect send in/out works best for me.

I would advise to get a mixer that can directly be used as a multitrack soundcard, it’s very interesting workflow wise.

My Alesis Multimix 12FW is pretty solid, being 16 yo now…
Being able to record everything at once is very interesting.

FX is less important IMO.

Thanks mate, looks nice!

Maybe Soundcraft EFX8 or something like that ? It seems pretty nice
(I don’t have this but I’m wondering to replace my focusrite soundcard)

I don’t have but am still fascinated by this one that can record directly on the mixer: http://music-group.com/Categories/Behringer/Mixers/Analog-Mixers/UFX1604/p/P0AB3

Yeah same here. Looks like a great interface/mixer/remote recorder solution. Firewire + USB too. Prob grab one when my current interfaces die.

I use a Berhinger Xenyx 1622. It’s more than I need but the price is right, the pre’s are good and on-board effects are nice. plenty of ins and outs for any need. I currently only have three keyboards and my digitech trio (band in a box) guitar practice pedal connected but room for more if I decide to start getting rack modules.

Thanks mate, I intend to bug an Behringer Xenyx board! yeah!

I’m also looking for a mixer for my Volcas (bass/keys/fm/sample) POs and next purchase which will be a Morg MS-20 or a Moog Mother 32 (still undecided)
It’s for doodling at home with limited space, no MIC input or DAW or effects needed.
I only really need Phones out and the ability to put the audio through externel effects boxes (or pedals)

any recommendations?

Perhaps an old analogue mixer?

If three stereo ins, one stereo effect bus and one stereo out are enough, I recommend the Art SplitMix4: http://artproaudio.com/mixers/product/splitmix4/.

how do I introduce effects pedals into that? where would they go?

I’m really digging this:

Mackie 1202VLZ4 12

no USB bollocks or shitty effects, just a simple analogue mixer. never thought I would have any opinion or even fun but this one does it for me. guess the smaller ones are equally good. I went for this as it has 2 sends (as opposed to just 1 on the smaller models). pretty good routing options too. build like a brick

isn’t that really an 8 channel?
when you say 2 sends, is that the “aux out -> aux returns”?

I have the 1202VLZ as well and love it. Yeah it’s two aux and two stereo returns, one can be pre fader. 8 channel mixer, 4 of which are stereo. You get some awesome routing possibilities: muting a track sends it to outputs 3/4, and there’s another ‘control room’ bus that has its own volume pot and is switchable between main outs, 3/4 and tape in (a stereo in that’s separate from the 8 channels). It’s awesome to put a sampler on this bus because you can pick and choose what gets sent to it.

Got mine for £75, older model but newer ones just have cosmetic and preamp upgrades, blows every other mixer in this class out of the water IMO, maybe not in sound but functionally for sure. It could be smaller, I guess - will probably bring my soundcraft notepad to shows instead for this reason. But Mackie wins on internal power supply…

Oh, the other complaint is that there’s no LED on each channel to indicate mute state. So sometimes it’s easy to forget a channel is muted, and it’s hard to tell just by looking at the button as well. But hey, most other small mixers don’t even have mute and solo.

Here’s an image to get an idea of size, that’s standard rack width.

I finally bought a 2nd handed Behringer 1204usb, cost me 125USD, it has 2 fx send/return buses, although it has many outputs that you might not need.

Yeah, it’s a bit complicated. The manual has some examples: http://artproaudio.com/downloads/owners_manuals/om_splitmix4.pdf?v=1429189037

But if you need send volumes, you actually can’t do what I claimed in the previous post. Basically, you can split a signal into four separate outputs (with volume control), or you can mix 4 signals into 1 output (with individual volume control), or any combination of these two. For example, your audio goes into splitter input, then you use the first two outputs for effect sends, the last two channels for return, and the mixer output for the master out. All the channels are stereo too.

I like this. It’s small. But would it be enough for 4 Volcas, some POs chained to one line in, some sort of lead synth (a Roland Boutique (or maybe 2) and an effects box?
Also, it’s passive so i won’t be able to plug in some headphones right? no amp?

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the Keith McMillen K-mix. I got it for mixing synths/drum machines live, for which it rules, but now I also use it as my audio interface for Ableton. It’s fantastic. I find it to be way more useful than I predicted. I used to just go with cheap Yamaha etc mixers for live stuff, with little or no ability to have fx sends… and now having a real, quality mixer with the ability to have several fx sends is SO much better. I’ve learned that having a good mixer live can make a HUGE difference.
