Anybody got a decent hard/soft bag/case for the OP-1?

Think it’s probably about time I started taking better care of my OP, not just chucking it in my rucksack (though I’m fully confident it can take it).

There’s no way I’m paying Teenage Engineering £££££££££ for one of their precision engineered ones. It’s just a piece of plastic/fabric?! So I’m assuming there must be some case for a similar product (like a Korg Micro controller or similar) that would be a good fit, but looking for suggestions if anyone has any.

Either a hard case or a soft cover could work, but I’d like it to not add much size/weight to the OP-1 so I can still just throw it in a bag.

Take the decksaver and a shoelace or belt around it. It almost stays the same small.
This is how I carry it. Perfect

Good idea re the Decksaver!

What some folk do is just to use the original carton and elastic bands that the OP-1 came in.

I always use the purpose-built TE Unit-Portables case though.

When something is sooo portable by design that it is in a rucksack all the time, then I take the view that a £58 case to protect a £700 instrument equates to common sense and money well spent.

I have the decksaver and it’s great, could just tie something around it and you’re good to go. I also have one of these bags from Sand (http://www.sandisacult.com/product/op-1-cargo-softcase-black-multicam). I like it because it has a nice big pocket to hold all the accessories, whereas obviously with the decksaver you can’t hold anything (but has more protection of course with the hard cover).

Here’s a case thread with several alternatives: https://www.operator-1.com/index.php?p=/discussion/130/cases-for-op-1

Another smaller case thread. Probably some overlap with the first one: https://www.operator-1.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1080/op-1-cheap-case-alternative

(I have the Unit Portables case too)

Agreed on need to protect investment, but you can get as good (or even better) a case for cheaper. I use decksaver now but before I used this, which was great:

Thanks all. Agree with the investment part I guess but still pains me to pay £60 for a TE case that’s not even that great.

@Ghostly606’s suggestion seems good, or a ‘deck saver’. Did that UDG Creator case fit the OP1 well?

It did, you do need to cut the foam to fit. I use a homemade soft case and decksaver now which is almost better because you have the decksaver when leaving the OP1 out in the studio.

Oh nice, I like that idea. Maybe I’ll start with a decksaver and then reassess…

That sounds like a very good plan.

The Sennheiser case mentioned in the other thread:

is great. It’s sturdy, not too bulky (easily thrown in a backpack), and $18. All you have to do is trim the foam it comes with to fit the OP-1 and/or pull it out and add your own.

Thanks for this amazing tip!! Oddly enough, I think i actually have one of these in a cupboard somewhere…! Never even considered using it!

This cheap case fits my OP-1 with DeckSaver on with just enough extra room for IEMs and a couple cables. I wouldn’t recommend it without the DeckSaver since it’s squishy enough that the knobs might be stressed.

Pistol case fitted with foam works for meh

I use the original PaperFoam case & rubber bands that the OP1 came in, BUT I coated the outside of the PaperFoam case with PlastiDip. This makes it far more durable and less prone to perforation and rips over time.

Wow that’s a good one too. I like that it will fit with the decksaver on, for extra extra protection. That’s kinda the best of both worlds, too, to have the hard and the soft and be able to mix/match to fit the situation. Now to see if they do it on Amazon.co.uk…!!

Is there any movement room or is it a tight fit?

Case with a little adjustment from its original purpose. Had it for a few years now and (imho) its still the best solution. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/leeda-stiff-rig-board-p295540
