  • where's the wow? and that's not a rhetorical question.
i read the text, watched the video...so, it's a square bobble head that moves in time with a beat? a dancing santa that can be beat snyched?

they both look really great!! I'd love to get my hands on an H. anyone have any idea how we can order one or get more info in English?
  • I guess the OP-Z took a back seat for these.

The IKEA collab coming up soon probably looks more affordable and usable for everyday around the home. But I can't read the web page for H and R and I have no idea what the interface is for these things. Seems very niche, I was looking into 6 axis robot arms for tasks but this doesn't seem task worthy???
  • ah, it's a robot arm. can't say i have much need or interest in a robot arm, so that probably explains why i doesn't spark any "wow" for me.
so what would be some applications of these things? maybe i just don't know that i need one of these.

  • Teaming up with Baido was SUCH a smart move from Teenage Engineering (in association with Raven).

These smart devices are competition for the likes of Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana in a market (China) where these brands are not king - but Baido is!

Wish them all the very best for this new venture. If it takes off then it'll only fuel the TE machine and will in turn start pumping out more tech, toys and instruments ......

    :)
  • if anyone lives in china please hit me up... will compensate price plus bonus for an H!

It might not understand you dude, it's just built for the Chinese market at the moment.
Unless you can learn mandarin for all commands it needs ;)

  • i'm on it! ready for my H!!!
  • Surely the op-z will compatible with this? Might be fun to have some physical dancing about as jam away.
  • with instant on this one.  there seems to be much potential in this space.

    Quoth the website:

"and maybe, just maybe it will be compatible with OP-Z."

This looks cool. Gotta love the aesthetic. Dunno if I need it, but if the price was right, it might make a really cool stage buddy for my DJ sets <3

    I am in Shanghai China...

  • I don't understand why TE is so fond of making amps....

    There are so many amps.....

In my home...guitar tube amp....bass amp....a pair of OLD DVD amps...monitor amps...

    So many of them...

They are not just speakers - they are smart AI speakers like Amazon Alexa etc. Little companions too :)
  • This writeup reveals a bit more info: https://www.engadget.com/2017/11/15/teenage-engineering-baidu-h-and-r-smart-speakers/
Some really cool prototype images in there, thanks for the share. :)

What an awesome job those guys have! Going round the world playing and showcasing TE gear!
  • looks like H and R are here in las vegas this week for CES! gonna try to sneak in to see the Baidu booth tomorrow in case i can get some photos in person...
  • oh yeah, and also on one video report from CES that i saw, they said both units should be available in america in 2018, maybe priced around $300 for H.
  • I guess they are cool but not really seeing the point, things like Siri, Alexa, etc get old kind of fast once the novelty wears off, at least in my experience.
  • i'm super excited for R... and integration with the OP-Z. get a few R's around and sequence them, just can't wait!
  • I'm actually quite excited to hear more about R too.
  • I guess if R had some functions with OP-Z other than just dancing then it could be interesting to me, but so far it is difficult to see what else it can do, I suppose it will have a number of sensors which if could be used for control of OP-Z parameters or something, that could be cool.
  • To be honest, I'm quite excited at the idea of R simply being an animatronic smart speaker even if it has no interface with OPZ.  I've got no real need for a smart speaker, but the idea of a cute little robot who can welcome you when you get back from work just seems to appeal to me. I really hope to see a EU / UK release with not too outrageous price tag.
