OP-Z launch date moved from Sept 2017 to "Late" 2017 :(

I’d be surprised if they release before Winter NAMM or SuperBooth even…

:frowning:

Well, it probably fits perfectly inside a christmas sock. :stuck_out_tongue:

even if it’s “released” i seriously doubt i’ll be able to get ahold of one before jan. hope hope hope tho

This page says September

i see September too

Weird this chopping and changing, it definitely said late 2017 a few days ago.

https://teenage.engineering/products/op-z_preview : “late 2017”
https://teenage.engineering/products/op-z : “september 2017”

Yeah two different URLs. If you go to the TE website you get the late 2017 link from the main page. If you Google “teenage engineering opz” you get the Sept 2017 one.

meh. was about to write a post about comparing OP-Z to Novation Circuit because want to get one or another, but it looks like i’d be getting circuit for now

Circuit is tremendous btw! The firmware updates keep making it even more awesome. If you have a modular system look into CV.ocd which works flawlessly with circuit right out the box.

Yeah depending on the type of browser (mobile or desktop) it will show September 2017 / Late 2017. I don’t know if it’s a bug or if they keep changing their minds. Either way. Its getting close the end of September so I doubt it’s coming this month. I bet the wanted to avoid the iPhone release because they are using iPhone screens for the OP-Z. This will give people time to buy their new iPhone which they will use as the OP-Z screen. The new iOS 11 update made a lot of changes a few days ago and I am sure they need to thoroughly test their app with the full iOS 11 release and not just the Beta. If the OP-Z shipped around the same time as iOS 11 and it somehow broke the app everyone with an OP-Z would be shit out of luck for a screen until they worked out the bugs. It makes sense to me at least :). This is my biggest problem with the whole BYOSomething. Devs start to rely on the fact people have things like an iPhone and it almost becomes insane to think about buying both just to use the OP-Z to it’s full capability. Especially for someone that uses Android. I don’t but this type of stuff locks me into iPhone, like my Apple Watch and Apple TV does. I could never get rid of my iPhone. It kind of feels like what ROLI is doing with their new controllers being heavily based around iOS as well.

Opz looks pretty fun but struggling to evaluate its actual worth/benefit. Especially for people that aren’t interested in the video aspect. But Op1 is something that only totally reveals its value once you have it in your hands so maybe Opz will be the same. Just seems possibly a little too niche/fashion over function for me. Not sure the fun factor warrants buying in to its limitations. All depends on price tho…

I’m going to stick my neck out… £400 (maybe a little less).

Was thinking more like £300 (comparing it to digitakt and korg es2) but £400 is probably closer to reality. Anything over that and I think they might struggle to sell outside of TE headz… Tho pocketable size, rechargeable battery and the video stuff are pretty attractive USP’s for a lot of peeps.

UK Pound has dropped quite a lot in relation to the Euro lately, so stuff is more expensive in £ now. I’m guessing the OP-Z has to be at least €500, which would mean about £440. But I hope I’m wrong and you are right. =)

Remember its gonna (sadly) have a plastic base so anything above £380 is asking over the odds (but then this is the company that wants £15 for a small bit of plastic and an elastic band! That said the POs are fantastic value).

I reckon it’ll be $599 US. If it is any less than that I will be extremely surprised

Tobias von Hofsten and David Möllerstedt from TE (and the company itself) are listed as participants at Loop 2017 in Berlin in November: https://loop.ableton.com/2017/participants/

Ableton released the Push 2 at Loop 2015. Might be a good time and place for a OP-Z release…
