Portable Speaker

I find using the OP-1 on headphones not too great, but don’t work at a desk with it. I have a Mini Jambox. Is there anything around that size that’s better than that?

Cheers

MiniRig.

I use Killburn - a killer for me

bigger but frigging awesome … libratone zipp

my wife bought me it last xmas. the sound is ‘360’ and not directional like other speakers. battery powered so totally portable kickass speaker.

They all look great, thanks guys. However, is there anything I could get on a budget?

Right. Sorry.

The Minirig is what I have, but maybe Wirecutter has some recommendations that are worthwhile? You’ll probably get better recommendations from others, though.

+1 on the Minirig. Simple, sturdy, and doesn’t have the retarded DSP that some other manufacturers use (BASS BOOST!!!). Usually though in these threads people just recommend what they’ve randomly bought, as most small speakers work just fine.

I did a lot of reading and demo-ing of other products before deciding on the Libratone Zipp.

It’s on par with the likes of Bose and Sonos single speaker offerings … only it doesn’t need to be plugged in - it’s portable.
One is capable of giving good quality sound to a room at a party

I have a Cambridge Audio Go V2 that was decently priced and has a great sound. But for outdoors use, works only in a silent environment for the purposes of jamming. I mostly use it indoors.

On a budget the JBL flip is great, however I do not have a OP-1 so cannot comment on the two. For my PO and 404 it sounds awesome.

I just snagged a JBL Charge 3 and keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that it works well with the OP-1. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

JBL Xtreme after the firmware update on the UE Megaboom introduced unbearable latency on the mini jack port … The dedicated subs on the Xtreme are killer, PO14+32 will drive your neighbours crazy. It’s a bit on the larger side though, so just OK for portability

Wow. Lots to check out. Thanks again

Huge fan of the charge 3. Obviously not the same as a studio set up but for $150 its the best out of everything I’ve tried. Also battery life is good and can charge the op1 or my iPad while I’m on the go. I like taking that setup to the beach to chill out and play, its loud enough to hear over the waves and still has good range.

I have a JBL Flip 4, and works good for me when I’m on the go. Seems like there are lots of portable options these days!

I like my UE Boom for music but it’s no good for synths. It has a really annoying power saving ‘feature’ where it sleeps if it doesn’t detect input for a couple of seconds, then it takes a few more seconds to start back up after the input kicks in.

Hey dudes, I know there is a few portable speaker threads on here, trying to trawl them to get the best info. Gonna do a test in the showroom, but I’m concerned about latency, and size vs sound.

I spent a bit of time with the Bose SoundLink 3, and it seems really great, but most people seem to recommend the JBL xtreme. I like the smaller size of the Bose SoundLink 3…

I’ve been really happy with the Soundlink Mini, but as I’m now entertaining more live performance, I want something w/ a second line in, so I can use my ipad w/ Samplr (or whatever) for transitional droning etc. between OP-1 songs.

I have my eye on this Roland Mobile Cube…

I wouldn’t recommend the Mobile Cube. I bought it last year as I found the size perfect (and it looks good!), but the audio quality doesn’t really make it for the OP-1. Too muddy.

I have been using my Monotron Delay as a portable speaker in a pinch. I wouldn’t rely on it for anything serious, but it’s handy and tiny and everyone should have a Monotron of some kind :stuck_out_tongue:
