complex jungle drum programming

So I find it easy to make drum and bass loops from single drum samples with either the Finger or Pattern sequencers.

And it is also quite trivial to make simple jungle breaks e.g. by setting the sample start on the snare of a jungle break and recording live.

Has anyone been able to program more complex jungle breaks on OP-1?
I was thinking of chopping jungle break samples in 1/16 length to be able to use the sequencers but have been too lazy to try it out yet.

Yep, I’ve had great fun using Drum with samples of breaks and messing around with the sequencers. Worth a try if you’re interested.

Not sure if you want to get intricate programming like idm styles but if you want to do classic jungle with some complexity I remember just setting loop mode on all the drum hits. Some would be like little loops, others would just loop the snare, but there was some tempo tweaking I had to make so it would sync perfect with the tape loop. Also maybe this would help with longer sequences when using the endless sequencer: op1-notator

The Op-1 is quite the Drum n Bass machine! The combination of tape and all the different sequencers makes for a powerful concoction. Yes, definitely try that thing you were thinking of (chopping a jungle break into 1/16 notes and using the sequencers). I like to chop the break into the individual hits too and just use it like a drum kit. I grabbed a whole load of those classic breaks off the internet and chucked them in their raw form into a load of drum kits. Good to have those lying about for slicing, overlaying and remixing.

Here was one of my attempts at DnB on the Op-1 (was an entry for one of our battles):

This is a sick tune!

feeling inspired :wink:

Couldn’t agree more, awesome tune.

love that yoof! Any good videos out there for this kind of drum programming on the OP-1?

IMO this is really really cool and inspiring:

@yoof brilliant track!

Cheers folks, very kind!

I did it and happy to share my drumkits with the community:

3 breaks each kit, chopped in 8 pieces of equal length - ready for the op1 endless sequencer (174bpm)
enjoy!

@hangar64 these ARE awesome, thanks so much for sharing!

@hangar64 thx!

This thread inspired me to attempt a jungle track using the OP-1 on a recent bus journey

really nice old school vibes!!!

Great track. Only OP-1? I would love a walkthrough of how you made it
